How to Port Your Mobile Number?

Here's How to Port your Mobile Number? | Step- by-Step Guide

Mobile Number Portability (MNP) is a great option for people unhappy with their current mobile service provider. It allows you to switch to a new provider without having to change your mobile number. This can be a great way to save money, get better coverage, or take advantage of new features and plans.

Here are some of the benefits of MNP:

● You can keep your number. This is a big one for many people. Your mobile number is a valuable asset. It's how you stay in touch with friends, family, and colleagues. MNP lets you keep your number when you switch providers, so you don't have to worry about updating everyone with your new number.

● You can save money. MNP can help you save money on your mobile bill. When you switch providers, you may be able to get a better deal on your plan. You can also take advantage of new customer discounts and promotions.

● You can get better coverage. If you are not happy with the coverage you are getting from your current provider, MNP can help you switch to a provider that has better coverage in your area.

● You can get new features and plans. MNP can help you get the latest features and plans from your new provider. This could include things like unlimited data, free international calling, or discounts on smartphones.

If you are unhappy with your current mobile service provider, MNP is a great option for you. It's a free and easy way to switch to a new provider and keep your mobile number.

Here are some of the things to consider before porting your mobile number:

● The porting process can take a few days. During this time, your old SIM card will be deactivated and your new SIM card will not be activated. This means that you may not be able to use your phone for a few days.

● You may need to pay a porting fee. The porting fee is typically ₹19.

● You may need to provide documentation. The documentation required for porting your number may vary from operator to operator. Typically, you will need to provide proof of identity and a proof of address.

● Your new provider may not offer the same features and plans as your old provider. Make sure to compare the plans and features offered by your new provider before you port your number.

Here are the 8 easy steps on how to port your mobile number:

1. Check if your mobile number is eligible for porting. Not all mobile numbers are eligible for porting. You can check if your mobile number is eligible by sending an SMS to 1900 with the text  quoting PORT. If your number is eligible, you will receive an SMS back with the message "Your mobile number is eligible for porting".

2. Generate a Unique Porting Code (UPC). A UPC is a 8-digit code that is required to port your mobile number. You can generate a UPC by sending an SMS to 1900 with the text "PORT & 10-digit mobile number". For example, if your mobile number is 9876543210, you would send an SMS to 1900 with the text, PORT 9876543210. You will receive an SMS back with your UPC.

3. Choose a new mobile service provider. Once you have generated a UPC, you can choose a new mobile service provider. When you sign up for a new mobile plan with your new provider, you will need to provide them with your UPC.

4. Submit the required documents. In order to port your mobile number, you will need to submit the required documents to your new mobile service provider. These documents may include a proof of identity (such as an Aadhaar card or a passport) and a proof of address (such as an electricity bill or a bank statement).

5. Pay the porting fees. There may be a porting fee associated with porting your mobile number. The porting fee is usually around INR 100.

6. Wait for the porting process to complete. The porting process usually takes 4-5 days. Once the porting process is complete, you will receive a confirmation SMS from your new mobile service provider.

7. Activate your new SIM card. Once you have received a confirmation SMS from your new mobile service provider, you can activate your new SIM card. To activate your new SIM card, you will need to insert it into your phone and dial a special activation number. The activation number will be provided to you by your new mobile service provider.

8. Start using your new mobile number. Once your new SIM card has been activated, you can start using your new mobile number. Your old mobile number will now be ported to your new mobile service provider.

Here are some additional tips for porting your mobile number:

● Make sure that you have a valid UPC before you submit your documents to the new mobile service provider.

● Keep a copy of your UPC and all of the documents you submit to the new mobile service provider.

● Be patient. The porting process can take up to 5 days.

● If you have any questions, contact your current or new mobile service provider.
