What is smart lighting and what can it do?

Smart lighting is any light you can control beyond a wall switch — from your phone, by voice, or automatically on a schedule. That includes smart bulbs that screw or clip into your existing holders, LED strips for accent and ambient light, panel and ceiling fixtures, and smart switches that make ordinary lights controllable. Depending on the product you can dim, change colour or colour-temperature (warm to cool white), group rooms into scenes, set routines like "on at sunset, off at bedtime," and control everything with Alexa or Google. The appeal is convenience and ambience, plus modest energy savings from dimming and automation — lights that aren't on full, or aren't left on at all.
