BSNL launches optical transport network
Bharatiya Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) launched an optical transport network (NG-OTN) for the Super Express Highway across the country on Friday, taking the step with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Digital India program. NG-OTN's launch was done by Union Minister Manoj Sinha in Mumbai. He also appreciated BSNL for modern technology-based ultra fast broadband service. Sinha also said that the government has targeted broadband connectivity to 250,000 village panchayats by December 2018 and so far more than 100,000 villages have been covered with optical fiber broadband connectivity.
1. 100 Gigabit launches- OTN will also help in central government projects like IndiaNet, Swan, NKN etc.
2. Apart from this, Sinha also said that NG-OTN will be able to cover 100 cities of the country with 330 million projects.
3..45 of 100 cities have already been installed in the infrastructure and NG-OTN operations were started here on Friday and the rest will be functional under NG-OTN till March 2018.
